“They have taken so many hours off my plate. Just knowing that stuff’s getting done. Even little things like a project where one of the fonts got discontinued from Typekit . . . I don’t want to spend hours trying to figure out a font.”

About

Cliff Pollard is the owner of Unlimited Fix. Unlimited Fix is an agency that does design and development works for websites and digital agencies.

Challenges

Pollard’s firm, Unlimited Fix, didn’t shy away from hiring freelancers to help with their work. However, he and his team often needed to retouch the work at the end because they weren’t done well.

Sending the work back to the freelancers for revision all the time wasn’t smart because they charged hourly rates. Unlimited Fix has gone as far as hiring people from other teams to come in and help out with some work. Some people would show the agency their portfolio and get on the team. Unfortunately, when they started working on projects, they could not do the stuff they claimed they could do.

Why did they decide to give DUDE a shot?

Since Unlimited Fix had no designer, they had content creation difficulty when given design works. They needed like-based interactive designers for their agency’s web design and web development.

And it was very hard for them to find people who speak their language. For instance, what is a desktop design, or how can a desktop design translate to a mobile view? Hence, their criteria were tailored around who could design for them. They did not care much for who could develop. Instead, they were more interested in who speaks the same language as they do. That way, their developers can face other projects squarely and build the agency’s vision. In Cliff Pollard’s words, he said, “And you guys (DUDE) did really nice also. There was already a lot of trust in your company because Russ is one of your mentors.”

What are some of the successes you’ve had since working with DUDE?

Firstly, their design got fixed right off the bat. The agency knew DUDE was familiar with websites, especially WordPress.

That was good for them because 90% of their websites were WordPress. They are doing some projects where they have to ask the team leader to build it the way that our developers at DUDE will build it. That way, they can get in to see how DUDE builds its projects, look under the hood, and the agency can recommend it to their clients. The benefits include the turnaround on designs and the fact that they could send some examples in a brand book, and DUDE can bring something out.

“They have taken so many hours off my plate. Just knowing that stuff’s getting done. Even little things like a project where one of the fonts got discontinued from Typekit, actually all three fonts I was using on the website…I don’t want to spend hours trying to figure out a font. Hence, I can actually work on the business.”

Who do you recommend DUDE to?

Unlimited Fix Agency liked DUDE’s ticketing system for its explanatory works. At first, Pollard wanted to forward an email. But when he clicked on one of the dropdown menus, he loved how everything is.

Any agency looking for a producer or trying to coach their project managers simply has to copy and paste DUDE’s templates. DUDE’s instructions are often self-explanatory for each project. The agency can go to DUDE’s Slack page to copy and paste. Pollard’s agency is a heavy Slack user. They find the quick response of their pod leaders on Slack very awesome.
